SPIRILLA COMMUNITY HOME
DOC 234—34/2

DEUS:   088/26812—81
REX-13: 978-0882681/283
The Spirala Community is intrinsically connected to nature; they live and work everyday within the landscape. As such, the site was the first consideration for their community home. Arid grasses and patches of shade-giving-trees are crucial to the experience at the Spirala Community Village, and we wanted their community home to foster deeper relationships with this natural surrounding.

The new home is partially buried into the hillside. This positioning on the site allows for the individual to be positioned in several distinct orientations within the landscape. On the Eastern face, long expanses of horizontal glazing give views to the landscape at eye-level. The North-western face can be completely opened up. The interior extends outside onto stepped plaza looking out onto the entire community. These views offer different orientations within the landscape, they encourage introspection about our relationship to the planet.
