The year is 2050, Global temperatures have risen by three degrees celsius, primarily due to human activities. Ecosystems that have been stable for millions of years are now in a state of extreme change. More than 15% of the earth's landmass has experienced a catastrophic shift in climate. Nearly a third of earth's species face extinction. Climate change caused by humans has resulted in habitat loss for the majority of species on the planet. The survival of most species and ecosystems now depends on human-assisted migration. The warm stable temperatures of the Los Angeles basin are ideal for the incubation of a variety of species. Once a bustling railyard, this site now serves as a nursery for the west coast’s sprawling timberlands. Flatbed trays planted with bio-diverse micro-ecosystems develop to maturity. Once mature they begin their great migration, in search of changing climates. The temperate rain forests of the pacific northwest once dominated by towering western hemlock have been pushed farther north and farther toward the coastline. The shifting forest has left behind patches of unhealthy and dying forest unable to tolerate the new climate zone. By introducing species more suited to the new climate zones, fires are mitigated, harmful insects are controlled and habitat is preserved and expanded.
